What are the benefits of dermabrasion?
Dermabrasion is a comprehensive and rejuvenating procedure. Certainly, there is a reason it has been a mainstay of medspas and plastic surgery practices for decades. Among its benefits, patients can expect the following:
- Smoother skin
- Improved appearance in scars
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Address dark spots
- Address rhinophyma
- Address actinic keratosis
Dermabrasion can be performed on the entire face or it can be honed to a specific target area.
What occurs during the dermabrasion procedure?
Dermabrasion is an outpatient procedure, although we may recommend a friend or family member drive you home.
Because dermabrasion is an extremely effective procedure, you will require local anesthesia prior to treatment. Once this has taken effect, your provider will apply the dermabrasion device to your skin, called a dermabrader. This dermabrader has a surgical brush on the tip, which rotates while being applied to your skin. Your provider will use constant, gentle pressure to reach a precise depth for your desired level of rejuvenation. Depending upon the treatment area, dermabrasion usually takes anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour.
What should I expect during recovery?
Before you go home after the procedure, our office will provide detailed instructions, including how to change the dressing and clean your skin. We will also give you specific ointments for the recovery process.
Following dermabrasion, most patients experience swelling, redness, burning, or itching. At this stage, over-the-counter medication is usually sufficient to ease any discomfort.
Because dermabrasion is more aggressive than other resurfacing procedures, most patients wait a week or two before returning to work or other activities. More strenuous activity such as exercise must be postponed for one month. Patients can resume applying makeup only once the skin has completely healed.
With all factors in place, you will regain the smooth, even skin you love.
Will i need more than one dermabrasion treatment?
In order to get your desired results, you may require more than one dermabrasion treatment. During your initial consultation, we will examine you and listen to your goals. Once we have all information, we will make a recommendation. From there, we will help you plan your appointment(s) to ensure optimum results.
