What is a facelift?

A facelift in Dallas, or rhytidectomy, restores a natural, youthful and rested look to your face. Though facelift techniques vary, the longest lasting results will lift and tighten the “SMAS” layer of the face, consisting of connective tissues that attach the skin to deeper tissues of the face. Relying on the SMAS layer for lifting the face instead of just pulling back the skin, leads to natural and long-lasting results without the overly tightened look of the past. The facelift procedure reduces sagging skin and skin folds on the cheeks and jawline as well as turns back the facial changes that come with aging.

Am I a candidate for a facelift?

A facelift addresses the midface, correcting sagging jowls and cheeks and mouth lines. For those with signs of aging on the upper portion of the face, a facelift can often be performed at the same time as a neck lift and brow or eyelid lift. This combination usually requires an overnight stay in the hospital. During your initial consultation for your facelift in Dallas, Dr Beale will determine which procedure is best for you. Once the two of you have established total agreement, you may move forward with treatment.

Facelift in Dallas

Age affects us all differently: exposure to the elements, diet and genetics affect our skin and our cosmetic age. Patients 40-years-old and above are the most common candidates for facelift because it is at that age when the skin starts showing redundant signs of aging. However, there is also not necessarily a wrong age for a facelift and many people well above and below the age of 40 have undergone facelifts with great results. Good candidates for a facelift are:

  • Patients experiencing sagging skin, folds, creases and wrinkles in their face.
  • Patients who want to look more youthful, rested and vibrant.
  • Patients in good general health who don’t have a medical condition that would interfere with recovery
  • Those with realistic expectations of what the procedure entails and its results
  • Non-smokers or those who can cease smoking for a few weeks before and after the surgery

Dr Beale — A Comprehensive Approach to Facial Rejuvenation

Dr Beale will spend time with you in his Dallas office to evaluate the skin and muscles of your face and determine the best techniques for restoring your face to a more youthful look. Sometimes, Dr Beale will recommend adjunct skin treatments such as chemical peels or laser therapy to treat discolorations or roughness of the facial skin. He may also use fat grafting to correct the appearance of deflation in the face, which can usually be performed simultaneously with a facelift in Dallas. During his concoction of each surgical plan, Dr Beale functions like a designer, leveraging his knowledge of facial anatomy and surgical techniques. In this way, no two facelifts or neck lifts are the same.

What should I expect during recovery from a facelift?

Patients are given complete recovery instructions following their personal consultation. Bandages will be used to minimize swelling and bruising, and small tubes may be placed to serve as drains to help draw off excess blood or fluid.

Some pain, tightness, numbness, swelling, and bruising will occur, but you will be given pain medication to help you through the recovery process. Facial swelling will continue for several weeks, and a trace amount of swelling below the eyes might persist a while longer. You can reduce swelling further by sitting up during sleep for the first few days.

Most patients can return to work and other normal activities, including driving, after seven to ten days. Avoid strenuous exercise and sports for at least four weeks. You should be able to shower a couple of days after surgery and wear makeup within a week. Please avoid dyeing your hair for about three weeks. You will see Dr Beale for follow-up examinations to make sure you are healing well and that you are happy with your results. While the aging process will carry on, the results of your facelift should last for many years.
